Types of Irrigation Systems for Home and Commercial Landscape

A brief description of Irrigation

The other simple word which is used for irrigation is watering of plants or to give water to plants in a very controlled amount so that the landscape plants and lawns grow better. Irrigation has a very important role in maintaining lawns and landscape areas .

Benefits of Irrigation

There are many benefits of irrigation. Some are like,  through irrigation we can resist the waste of water . By this method someone can improve the quality of  plants and along  with these benefits we can also improve the soil structure.

Types of irrigation systems

There are many types of irrigations systems in different countries for homes and commercial landscapes such as :

  • Surface irrigation
  • Drip irrigation
  • Sprinkle irrigation
  • Subsurface irrigation
  • Furrow irrigation
  • Soaker hoses irrigation

Surface irrigation

Surface irrigation method is a method in which water is freely supplied on the soil surface. It is considered a very common method of irrigation which is practising in many countries in homes or in  commercial  landscape levels . It is considered a very easy method but it is not so efficient because the water supply in this  process is very uncontrolled therefore, this irrigation is also called flood irrigation.

Process:

The process of this irrigation system is , water is supplied to the end of the surface . water flows until it reaches to the end and sometimes it creates puddles there, so there is a specific time of flowing of water until it reaches to the end and the time is managed in this process for irrigation.

Drip Irrigation

Drip irrigation method is a very convenient method which is also called a water saving irrigation system . not only the water but it also saves valuable nutrients from  the soil because it works in a very controlled method .

Process:

It is a process in which tubes are placed with specific emitters with plants on the surface then emitters perform their role by slowly dripping the water which goes gradually into the soil then in the roots of the plants.it also helps to stop evaporation . Not only emitters are used in this process but different valves , pipes and tubings are also used , it is also considered a very advanced irrigation system . this method can apply on both homes or commercial landscapes  easily.

Sprinkle Irrigation

Sprinkle irrigation method which is also called rainfall irrigation because it is very similar to natural rain. As rain falls evenly on the soil same is the sprinkle irrigation method in which water is spread evenly on the ground and it also works perfectly on uneven ground too because water is sprayed into the air by the use of sprinklers.

Process:

In this process a specific pipe is used which stands perpendicular on which rotating nozzles are placed on the top of the pipe and the pipe is joined with the main pipe line of water , when the pressure of water is increased in the main pipe line then the water escapes from the nozzles and evenly gives water to the ground.

Subsurface Irrigation

Subsurface method is very sufficient in dry or hot areas because in dry or in those areas where water evaporates soon and makes the soil dry then  this method of irrigation works perfectly  .It not only saves water from evaporation but also improves the quality of plants and trees.

Process:

In subsurface irrigation water is supplied to the roots of the plants by placing a complete network of pipes under the ground . This method is also called subsurface dripping irrigation. In this process several pipes are connected under the ground to the main pipeline through which water is spread to the roots .

Furrow Irrigation

Furrow irrigation is very convenient  as it needs no pumps or tubes but just to flow the water through small channels dug by anyone.

Process:

In this process someone  just dugs small trenches between the plants and water flows through  them . This method is very useful  because water does not directly connect the roots .

Soaker hoses irrigation

Soaker hose is a method of irrigation in which tiny pores are found along its length which is similar to the pores of human skin . It is a slow process in which water flows very slowly to the roots of the plants.

Process:

This process is very simple because in this method simply the soaker hose is placed in the ground then someone  just has to turn on the water and then water slowly moves from  the pores of the hose and moist the ground .

Conclusion

In conclusion , the purpose of irrigation is to just supply water to the grounds  .It is very necessary for the betterment of plants and trees because a proper landscape irrigation system helps to maintain a pleasant outdoor space and different  types  of irrigation depend on  the environment and needs of the people . Different people use different methods of irrigation according to their needs to make their homes and commercial landscape beautiful .
